Excerpt from the book:

“They were standing on a high ledge that looked out over a gigantic cavern. Below them, the sides dropped away steeply to the bottom where great rocks littered the floor and everywhere the green algae cast its dim light giving the cavern the look and feel of a magical grotto. Stalactites hung from the ceiling like great swords ready to fall on unsuspecting victims and between them bats hung upside down. Small birds twittered and swooped around. At the bottom, Peter could see many animals moving about. There were all manner of creatures including mice and voles that scurried in and out of tunnels in the sides of the cavern. There were frogs and toads and rabbits, and even hedgehogs. Dotted around the floor and on large boulders were various strange piles of food containing berries, corn and nuts. Some of the animals were adding to the piles of food while others nibbled on bits of food as they sat in small groups. Flies buzzed around the food but they did not last long; the frogs and the toads made sure of that.

The ledge curved around both sides of the cavern and slowly dropped down towards the floor. Peter could not see the far end because the cavern turned left around a corner. He wondered how much further it went on.”
