Oct. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Boston, MA--The highly-regarded chamber orchestra Discovery Ensemble, conducted by Courtney Lewis, is pleased to announce a compelling four-concert series for the 2012 - 2013 season.  In addition, Classical New England has just announced that they will broadcast the orchestra's opening concert on October 21, live from Jordan Hall.

Discovery Ensemble, comprised of 50 exceptional professional musicians in their twenties and early thirties from the Greater Boston area, has also just launched a new Facebook presence [https://www.facebook.com/pages/Discovery-Ensemble/401135973269493].  Updates will be posted throughout the season so that concert fans watch for special promotions and opportunities, media coverage and photos of recent events taking place in and around the concerts.

The first concert of the new season on Sunday, October 21 at 3:00 P.M. takes place at one of the most acoustically perfect halls in the country, Jordan Hall at New England Conservatory of Music.  The program will feature Mozart's Symphony No. 28, Piazzolla's The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires featuring violinist Joshua Weilerstein, Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasileiras No. 9 and Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 4.

Aptly titled "Reflected Glory," this inaugural concert is comprised, for the most part, of remarkable works in which the composer is looking over his shoulder at an illustrious predecessor.  Mozart’s Symphony No. 28 – far less known than it should be – is a distinct nod in the direction of Haydn, and is one of the wittiest of the Mozart symphonies.  Piazzolla had Vivaldi in mind when he wrote his Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, a richly evocative homage to the Italian master in a series of artful tangos.  The two movements of Villa-Lobos’s Bachianas Brasilieras No. 9, a prelude followed by a fugue, transport the basic musical procedures of Bach to the Amazonian jungle.  And to close the concert, Bach himself – the multi-faceted and thrilling Fourth Orchestral Suite.

A Musical Conversation hosted by Classical New England's Brian McCreath with conductor Courtney Lewis will take place prior to the concert, beginning at 2:00 P.M. on the Jordan Hall Stage.

In addition, the entire October 21 program will also be broadcast live, beginning at 3:00 P.M. on WGBH's Classical New England 99.5 Boston/NH, 89.7 HD2 in Boston, 96.3 on Beacon Hill, 89.5 in Nantucket and 88.7 in Providence, RI.  The broadcast will also be able to be streamed live from www.wgbh.org on iTunes, Windows Media and Real Player.
