Oct. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- In the wake of the Great Recession, downtown organizations are giving more thought to every expense, and exploring every operational efficiency.

In the October issue of "Downtown Idea Exchange" newsletter, editor Sheila Grant speaks with a half-dozen downtown leaders to see how they are cutting costs and improving efficiency.

For example, the Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 in Milwaukee, WI, renegotiated with the firm that provides its clean and safe services.

"We told them we would like them to come up with some innovative approaches that still provided a high level of service and visibility," says Executive Director, Beth Nicols.

The contractors came up with a range of ideas including variable service levels. "The contractors were able to identify the city's busiest locations and peak hours for better resource allocation," says Nicols.

Strategies from Nashville, Dayton, Ottumwa, Chillicothe, Chambersburg, and more appear in the October issue of "Downtown Idea Exchange."
