On Saturday, October 27, 2012, the largest day of service in the United States, members of T.E.A.M.  and their community partners  will be working to Make A Difference in their communities by hosting the 2nd Annual Feed the Hungry Food Drive.

Rev. Sam Atchison, states “With more than 50% of the residents of the Greater Trenton area living under the poverty level, T.E.A.M.’s association of churches work every day to try to provide food and services for the area’s neediest residents which include the elderly and children.”  Last year, this effort was successful as it raised awareness of the growing level of food insecurity and hunger. “Atchison stated, “we need to make it even greater as the needs of the community are increasing at a rapid pace…our churches are seeing it grow on a daily basis and are struggling to meet the needs of the people.”
In addition to the 25 faith based members of the association, TEAM’s partners are the NJ Jersey Youth Corps, the Trenton Kiwanis and Hercman Properties,  who participated in the event last year.  Last year’s event raised more than a half of ton of food and financial donations from the community.  Atchison reported “that one of our partners,  provided food to more than 17,000 of Trenton’s residents last year  and that  did not include the people that were served with food on holidays.”

Tina Swan, community activist and the Administrative Assistant of T.E.A.M. stated,    “We are now serving the working poor – parents who are working but can’t make ends meet…we are working on providing food so that our children do not go to bed hungry… “ With funding sources down, it is a daily struggle…”

The community is invited to participate.  For more information on how you can get involved, please contact Tina Swan or Rev. Sam Atchison at 609-394-9229 or team@teamtrenton.org or Sarah Thoma at 732-241-9510 or sarah.thoma1@gmail.com.
