Seasonal Influenza Discussed in New Online Video

Oct. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  The latest educational video discusses seasonal influenza, also known as the flu.

Each year in the United States, on average 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications, and about 36,000 people die from the flu.
 
“The flu is contagious so it’s important that people understand the virus and how it’s spread,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “People with the flu can spread it to others up to about 6 feet away. Most experts think that flu viruses are spread mainly by droplets made when infected people cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. A person might also get flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth or nose. We hope this video helps to educate people about seasonal influenza and how to protect themselves from coming down with the flu.”
