The local SPCA recently received funds from a national organization that enabled them to purchase much needed mobile kennels for their branch. They had specific requirements so they approached Alifab of Pietermaritzburg to design, manufacture and fit removable kennels to their flat bed 1 ton bakkie.

With their vast experience in aluminium fabrication and previous knowledge of similar requirements Alifab employed AMPLIMESH Type 101A manufactured by Ampliform for this particular requirement. The beauty of Amplimesh is that it is made from high strength aluminium alloy, therefore it does not rust and does not need painting. When included in a light weight aluminium frame it becomes an ideal solution to a mobile kennel that needs to be lifted and man handled extensively, transported everywhere by road and thoroughly washed to keep it hygienically clean.

The layout included areas for big and small animals and the equipment required for capturing the animals. The narrow gauge mesh means the cages can be used for a wide variety of animals. The manufacturing process means there are no sharp edges where the paws can be injured. Solid tread plates were placed in strategic positions to protect the animals from wind etc and from each other. The installation method meant that not all the cages had to be used all the time. Some could be left off if not needed.
