(Oct. 9, 2012) – Owners of Southwest Florida businesses overcame challenges caused by illness, bureaucracy, the turbulent economy and Mother Nature to become finalists for the 18th Annual Southwest Florida Blue Chip Community Business Award. BB&T-Oswald Trippe and Company and BB&T Bank coordinates and sponsors the program that recognizes successful small businesses in Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties and shares their stories of how they overcame adversity as a way to teach and inspire others. “It’s extremely rewarding to recognize intrepid entrepreneurs who refuse to quit when times are tough,” said Gary V. Trippe, CIC, managing director of BB&T-Oswald- One business will receive the 2012 award at the annual luncheon, which takes place Thursday, Nov. 1 at Harborside Event Center, located at 1375 Monroe Street in Fort Myers. Registration begins at 11 a.m. The program starts at 11:30 a.m. There is no cost to attend. After a childhood tractor accident that cost him his right arm and shoulder and crushed his right leg, he went on to play varsity basketball in high school and college, until a knee injury forced him to give it up. Viewing each setback as an opportunity for growth, he has since written “Fully Armed,” is president of Ron Gustafson – My Story and is a real estate sales agent.
