Articles by Nobel Laureates Sir John Gurdon and Shinya Yamanaka in Stem Cells and Development

New Rochelle, NY- Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers (http://www.liebertpub.com) and the editorial leadership of the peer-reviewed journal Stem Cells and Development congratulate Sir John Gurdon and Shinya Yamanaka on being awarded the  Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. Articles by these two distinguished scientists are available free online on the Stem Cells and Development website (http://www.liebertpub.com/scd).

Sir John Gurdon is the corresponding author of an original research report on "Widespread Transcription in an Amphibian Oocyte Relates to Its Reprogramming Activity on Transplanted Somatic Nuclei." (http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.1089/scd.2011.0162) Dr. Yamanaka was a coauthor of the article "Generation of Naive-Like Porcine-Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Capable of Contributing to Embryonic and Fetal Development." (http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.1089/scd.2012.0173)

"This joint award is a recognition of the significance of Sir John's breakthrough in our understanding of the potential to produce pluripotent cells from ostensibly mature developed cells in the amphibian,” says Editor-in-Chief Graham C. Parker, PhD, research professor, Carman and Ann Adams Department of Pediatrics, Wayne State University School of Medicine. “In a delightful ontological recapitulation of stem cells and development, we can trace that seminal work forward to the discovery of Shinya Yamanaka that mammalian cells, including, of course, human, can be re-programmed to pluripotency providing a wonderful in vitro model to advance research in regenerative medicine, in vitro therapeutic testing, cancer research, and of course further our understanding of human development."
