Oct. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The Sons of the American Legion and Jay Armsworthy are gearing up for the next season of Bluegrass music.  The first show will take place on Sunday November 11, 2012 with the 2012 SPBGMA "Mandolin Player of the Year", Larry Stephenson and his band.

The Award Winning, Compass Records recording artist, Larry Stephenson is regarded as one of Bluegrass music’s finest high lead and tenor vocalist.  Larry has been touring as the leader of his own band in Bluegrass music for well over 20 years.  Raised just across the river from Southern Maryland in King George, Virginia, Larry was cutting his first recordings at the age of 13 with his Dad.  They had a family band and were popular in the Washington, DC area among the rich musical scene of Bluegrass music.  They were regular performers at the early 70’s music festivals held at the Take It Easy Ranch in Callaway, MD.  Since his teenage years, Larry Stephenson played with such bands as: Cliff Waldron and Leon Morris, Bill Harrell & the Virginians, and the famed Bluegrass Cardinals before forming his own band in 1989.  The Larry Stephenson Band has made many appearances on the Grand Ole Opry and RFD TV.  In 1996 Larry was made a member of the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame by the Virginia Folk Music Association.    Larry now makes his home in Nashville, TN with his wife Dreama and there long-awaited, much loved daughter.  But on Sunday November 11, Larry comes back to his hometown area roots with his clear melody, voice to the American Legion in Hughesville, MD.

Other upcoming shows at the Legion include the popular return of the Boxcars on Sunday January 27, 2013; IBMA’s 2012 Male Vocalist, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out on Sunday February 10, 2013; and the series closes on Sunday March 24, 2013 with Emerging Artists of the Year, Joe Mullins & the Radio Ramblers.  As always, Troy Jones will be doing sound.

All shows will be held at the American Legion Post 238 in Hughesville, Maryland on the corner of RT 381 & RT 231. They will begin at 2:00 pm with the doors opening at Noon.  Tickets for each show are “STILL” only $15.00 per person.  Food will be available for sale before the shows.
