Oct. 11, 2012 - PRLog -- The Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program (HNMCP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Heather Scheiwe Kulp to the position of Clinical Fellow.

Prior to joining HNMCP, Heather was a Skadden Fellow with Resolution Systems Institute/The Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago. There, she partnered with courts and government agencies to develop small claims, foreclosure, and other mediation programs for low-income litigants. She has consulted with multiple states, the Uniform Law Commission, and the Department of Justice about best practices in foreclosure mediation. Her work has been published by the American Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section, the Illinois State Bar Association, Wipf & Stock, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, ACResolution Magazine, and the Arkansas Law Review (forthcoming Spring ’13).

“We are simply delighted that we were able to persuade Heather to join our team,” said Robert C. Bordone, Thaddeus R. Beal Clinical Professor and Director of the Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program. “The nation’s most promising rising star in ADR, Heather is already a national expert on mortgage foreclosure mediation and is the only ADR-focused person ever selected to receive a prestigious Skadden Fellowship in the Skadden Foundation’s 25 year history. I look forward to the many contributions that I know Heather will make to our program and to the ADR field in the years ahead.”

Heather is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law and Saint Olaf College. Prior to attending law school, she founded and directed a not-for-profit alternative magazine for young women, Alive Magazine.

As a Clinical Fellow with the Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program, Heather will work on many special projects within the Clinic and will work with Harvard Law School student practice organizations that focus on alternative dispute resolution.

The Harvard Negotiation & Mediation Clinical Program is the nation’s first legal clinic focusing on dispute systems design and conflict management. HNMCP was founded in 2006 by Professor Robert Bordone to take Harvard Law School students from pedagogy to practice in the fields of negotiation, dispute resolution, and conflict management.

HNMCP trains a new generation of lawyers with the skills—in negotiation, mediation, facilitated dialogue, stakeholder assessment, dispute systems evaluation and design, conflict analysis, and curriculum development—necessary to help their clients manage their negotiations and disputes efficiently and creatively.
