40 Days of Prayer Hits Downtown Long Beach

Oct. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- America's National Prayer Committee and its member organizations are putting out a call to pray 40 days prior to the elections (September 28 - November 6).  “We are in desperate days as a nation as the spiritual, moral and financial fabric of our nation is disintegrating around us. Believers need to pray as never before" says NPC.

The National Prayer Committee (NPC) was founded in 1979, and has given birth to many united prayer initiatives, both in the United States and within other nations (especially through its development of the International Prayer Assembly). The NPC actually began as a subcommittee on prayer at the International Congress on World Evangelization held in Lausanne, Switzerland. Out of the Lausanne gathering came the U.S. Lausanne Committee, now Mission America, and America’s National Prayer Committee. Members of both Mission America and the NPC adhere to the Lausanne Covenant.

The current Chairman of the NPC is David Butts, founder and president of Harvest Prayer Ministries. Previous Chairmen have included NPC founder, Mrs. Vonette Bright, Co-Founder of Campus Crusade for Christ International, Dick Eastman, International President for Every Home for Christ, and David Bryant of Proclaim Hope!.

Rev. Dr. Angela Butts Chester, of Angela Chester Ministries (www.site.angelachester.org) and Founder of New Life Pastoral Counseling (www.newlifepastoralcounseling.com) in Long Beach, CA,  has heard the call and is joining others such as John Hagee Ministries, in a call to national prayer.  “We are not endorsing any particular party, however, the time has come that all Christians need to unite in this common purpose -  prayer for the election. The voice of the people need to and must be heard. We must vote our Christian values."

"We must continue to uphold the mantel of generation before." says Dr. Chester. "In such trying times for many Americans, we must take to our knees. We have a direct promise from scripture in 2 Chronicles 7:14, 'If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.'"

"My prayer,  is much like that of President Thomas Jefferson's, ‘Endow with Thy Spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth.’”
