Greenbox promises benefits for florists, consumers in cut flower industry

ABILENE, Texas – The founders of Greenbox Floral, a revolutionary new concept for the cut flower industry, say their new service marks the beginning of a better future for both shop owners and consumers.  Greenbox Floral was developed by Texas State Florists’ Association members Luke and Nathan Harwell of Abilene.
Greenbox Floral allows customers shopping online for cut flowers to make a virtual visit to a floral shop; select from actual arrangements live, in stock, ready for immediate gifting and created by an onsite professional florist.  The customer can then purchase the live arrangement online directly from that florist.
The new service will launch in November of this year (2012).
“We’re excited about creating a brighter future for our industry,” Luke Harwell, founder and president of Greenbox, said.  “Having grown up in the cut flower industry, we have experienced first-hand the way Internet order-gatherers ‘nickel and dime’ our shops to death.  We’ve also seen the frustration of consumers when they receive a bouquet that doesn’t look like the photo on the website.”
Harwell, president of Baack’s Florists and Greenhouses in Abilene, said Greenbox Floral will provide a florist with a webcam-based online store.  He and his brother, Nathan Harwell, began developing the service in 2009.
“Florists can take advantage of how this application of technology displays live, in real time the unique artistry of their shops,” Nathan Harwell, founder and CEO of Greenbox, said.  “No more middleman in the sales and no more disappointment for the customer.
“We believe customers will love Greenbox,” he added.  “They will delight in receiving the exact same flowers they viewed online. Not the copy of a picture or a recipe, the exact custom floral creation they viewed, clicked and added to their shopping cart online.”
Luke Harwell, a certified Texas Master Florist, said 38 florists in 6 states have already registered for Greenbox Floral, including McShan Florist in Dallas, TX, Arthur Pfeil Flowers in San Antonio, TX, G. Johnson’s Floral Images in Houston, TX, Mark Knox Flowers in Odessa, TX, Floral Express Flower Market in Little Rock, AR and Shirley’s Flowers Inc. in Rogers, AR.
The Texas State Florists’ Association, a professional trade association founded in 1914 administers the Texas Certified Florists Program.  Luke Harwell is one of only two Texas Master Florists in Abilene.
