Oct. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Whether it be a tried and true slice of Chicago style deep dish, or a tasty alternative, pizza can be found on nearly every street corner of this city for one simple reason: Chicago knows its pizza. Researchers at The Daily Meal have consulted chefs, restaurant critics, pizza authorities, and the general public, and have named five Chicago-area pizzas to their list of America’s 35 Best Pizzas.

Both Chicago natives with that innate pizza prowess and rookies looking for all the best options should be sure to check out the five Chicago pizza pits that made The Daily Meal’s hit list. Folks often drive all the way back into the city for a slice!

Pizano's (Rank: 4th)
A top player in the deep-dish world, Pizano’s is known for their most popular menu item: Rudy’s Special. Though it takes extra preparation time, this enormous pizza is quite literally a crowd-pleaser, with a thick golden crust buried beneath cheese, sausage, mushroom, onion, and green pepper. Pizano’s also offers a thin crust pie, for those friends with fainter hearts. Check out any of their four locations in the city.

Vito & Nick's (Rank: 5th)
Family-owned and a long-time contributor to the Chicago pizza scene, these thin crust specialists know a thing or two about the magic of pizza making. Located at 433 S Pulaski Road, it's easy and convenient to see why.

Gino’s East (Rank: 8th)
Arguably the best pizza in the Chicago, Gino's East has stood proud for over 50 years and is well-loved by its regular patrons, city visitors, native Chicagoans, taxi drivers, tour guides, and more. Famous for its atmosphere and its golden corn meal crust, nobody forgets their first trip to Gino’s East! (While there are additional Gino's locations, the Original Gino’s East is located at 633 N Wells Street.)

Great Lake (Rank: 29)
A much smaller spot at 1477 W Balmoral Ave, Great Lake is ideal for dining in with four or less, or for carry out! Respected for choosing meat and dairy products from humane, family-owned farms only, Great Lake turns great ingredients into fabulous pizzas. A more gourmet option, The Daily Meal says Great Lake deserves the buzz for their black pepper pie with cremini mushrooms and Dante aged cheese, as well as for their fresh herb pizza with Dante lamb cheese and tomato sauce!

Spacca Napoli (Rank: 30th)
Authentic, Neapolitan-style pizza, Spacca Napoli’s owner Jon Goldsmith frequents Naples to explore the region’s pizza and bring back new flavors and ideas. The Daily Meal’s top menu picks include the prosciutto e rucola, bianca con bufala, diavola, and salsiccia. Spacca Napoli is located at 1769 W Sunnyside Ave.
