Santa Train Rides Return To The Bergen County Rails for 2012

The Volunteer Railroaders Association announces the return of their very popular Santa Train Ride on December 1 2012. Trains will depart the Glen Rock Borough Hall station at 9:30am, noon & 2:30pm. The train will head east to Secaucus & back again.

Oct. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Each round trip will last about 90 minutes giving everyone plenty of time to enjoy the festivities on the train. Ticket prices are $9.00 for children under 12 and $13.00 for adults.  Order on line through http://www.santatrainride.com

During the ride the Santa will Ho Ho Ho his way through the train and visit each child giving them a special gift from his bag.  In addition each child can have his or her picture taken with Santa so they can always remember their ride, so bring your cameras. Also on board will be Mrs. Claus and other cartoon characters sure to entertain the kids and make for a great day out for all on board.  For more information or to order tickets call the VRA at 973-238-0555 or visit us online at http://www.santatrainride.com Major credit cards are accepted.

These trips are being run to continue the fund raising needed to finish the restoration and preservation of the historic NYS&W Hawthorne NJ train station.  This little train station has been sitting on the corner of Diamond Bridge Road and Royal Avenues in Hawthorne for over 100 years as a fixture in the middle of town. In September 2010 the building was moved 75 feet away form the corner to protect it from trucks that have been striking its roof for many years. The tasks for 2013 are to finish up the restoration of the building and finalize the landscaping of the property. So while you are enjoying a great day out on the rails with the kids you will also be helping to preserve an important aspect of New Jersey’s rich railroad transportation for generations to come.

So why not gather up the kids and Grandparents and join the VRA, Santa and his friends on these fun train rides.  Tickets for these trains usually sell out quickly (before Thanksgiving) so don’t delay.  The VRA staffs their ticket office in the four weeks prior to train times; see the website for the exact  schedule. At all other times just call and leave a message for a return call or e-mail vratrips@yahoo.com
