Oct. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- Traveling with infants is hard enough and when you have Twins it will add extra challenges, but it is not impossible. We recently took our Twin Boys on a 900 mile (one way) car trip to see their grandparents in Idaho. This in itself made us feel brave, incredibly nervous, and scared. We discovered a few tips that helped us and a Twins Life wanted to share them with our friends.

The best thing for us was a list, and boy did it change a few times before leaving. We wanted to share just a few items to help all of our friends on your next travel trip with your infant Twins:

•Formula, bottles, nipples, jars of food as well as diapers, rash ointments and baby wipes.
•Baby or child toiletries such as shampoos, baby wash, cloths, etc.
•Remember special things like pacifiers and the clips (especially the clips so you don’t have to reach in the backseat a million times), food utensils, and wipes for sticky fingers and faces.
•An outfit for each day away, along with a few on-hand extra outfits for those unavoidable accidents.
•An extra shirt or two for each parent, easily accessible during travel in the case of spit ups.
•Toys, some old and some new for a wide variety to avoid boredom and be captivated by the “new” factor
•A camera and/or video camera and extra film or memory cards
•Tylenol, Benadryl, diaper rash cream or any other medication your Twins may need on, during, or after the travel.
•And this is a biggie… PATIENCE! Bring a lot of patience and remember you will get stressed out and that it’s important you and your significant other have patience with each other as well.

Although we had all of these items, there are some things that cannot be planned for. We left at night in hopes that the Twins would sleep the trip away. This was not the case. On the trip to Idaho they did really well with a few crying episodes, but nothing we couldn’t handle. The trip home was a completely different story. We made a few stops during the day thinking the trip at night would be shorter and they would sleep for sure. I do believe this may have been our first mistake. We left Boise (8 hours from home) at night; however, the boys were now in the swings of full on teething, incredibly cranky, and just ready to be in their own home. We endured crying by Twins for about 7 hours straight. The poor little guys just couldn’t get comfortable couldn’t sleep, and to top it off we couldn’t seem to get their teeth to stop hurting them. We see now there are many things we could have done differently and wanted to share a few with everyone.

•Make sure to have plenty of teething toys if your Twins are between 4 to 9 months on the trip.
•If your Twins are teething makes sure that you have plenty of additional outfits for those inevitable accidents (we went through 8 outfits in about 8 hours.)
•If possible have a DVD of their favorites- the boys love the “Baby” and “Sprouts” learning channels.
•Plan on making plenty of stops to help soothe them when they are no longer happy in their car seat. Next time we will plan better stops for sure to give them a car seat break. Perhaps even consider staying the night at a hotel.
•Make sure if your Twins have a toy or blanket that soothes them, that you take it with you and that it is very accessible.
