Gulf Coast Orthodontics Announces Cash For Kids!
Oct. 5, 2012
-- To celebrate National Orthodontic Month in October, Dr. Michele Laboda, DMD and Dr. Van R. Speas, DDS, of Gulf Coast Orthodontics have announced their Annual Halloween Cash For Candy Campaign to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
Gulf Coast Orthodontics will pay trick or treaters cash for their Halloween candy as a way to promote a healthy holiday and support the fight against juvenile diabetes. Children will receive $1 per each pound of Halloween candy, up to a 10-pound limit. Gulf Coast Orthodontics will match each dollar in a donation to support Juvenile Diabetes.
Children can bring wrapped Halloween candy to Gulf Coast Orthodontics main office located at 14361 Metropolis Ave. Suite 1 in Fort Myers, during normal business hours between Thursday, November 1 and Wednesday, November 7th. The candy will be weighed at the office and the kids will be given cash on the spot. The candy will be donated to the Harry Chapin Food Bank.
Halloween is typically a time when kids eat too many sweets, which can lead to dental cavities, breakage of orthodontic appliances, and juvenile diabetes. This event gives parents an easy way to get Halloween candy away from their kids and control how much of the sweet treats they consume at one time. “The annual Cash for Candy Campaign gives us the opportunity to educate kids and parents on the importance of good oral health and nutrition,” said Dr. Laboda.
Last year, Gulf Coast Orthodontics collected more than 200 pounds of Halloween candy and donated more than $400 to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. “With childhood obesity and juvenile Diabetes still on the rise in the United States, we are pleased to once again offer the candy buyback program in the community in support of Juvenile Diabetes,” said Dr. Laboda. “Giving parents and children the incentive to get the sweets out of the house is one step closer to better health,” added Dr. Speas.
