Follow on Google News | German Marathon Championships in Munich: Qualification for World Championships possibleEvery runner participating in the German Marathon Championships at the MUNICH MARATHON 2012 is offered unique opportunities:
By: München Marathon In August, the world’s best athletes meet in the Russian capital to compete for medals and championship titles. The German Athletics Association (DLV) set the A-norm for participating in the World Marathon Championships at 2:12:45 h for men and 2:29:00 for women. The norm has to be reached until April 30th in 2013. However, there are special regulations for the German Champions at the MUNICH MARATHON 2012: In case of further open starting spots, the new national Champions can qualify for the World Championships through reaching the B-norm of the German Athletics Association (men 2:14:00 h; women 2:30:30 h). Therefore, the German Champions get a time bonus of 1:15 min. (men) and 1:30 min. (women), respectively – a clear advantage for those German top athletes who start at the Marathon Championships 2012. The great opportunity to qualify for the IAAF Championships in Moscow already at this early point is additional motivation for personal bests. On the flat und fast track of the MUNICH MARATHON, whose track record is 2:09:46 h (men), it is possible for the German winner to attain the ticket to the Championships in 2013. About the MUNICH MARATHON Since 2000, the MUNICH MARATHON has been organised by runabout MÜNCHEN MARATHON GmbH (former medien marathon münchen GmbH). The traditional running event takes place every year, always one week after the Oktoberfest, and is one of Germany’s Top 5 marathon events. In Southern Germany, the MUNICH MARATHON is the number one. Up to 20.000 runners participate every year. The track leads along the most important sights of the Bavarian capital, and ends with the finish at the Munich Olympic Stadium. The program around the run consists of a marathon exhibition (two days) in the Event-Arena at the Olympiapark with about 45,000 visitors, a pasta party and an international Trachtenlauf (traditional costume run) one day before the marathon.
