In addition, members help to promote the mission of the University and the SMPA through their work on the Council. Council members serve on a volunteer basis, typically for three-year terms. “Joining the Council is both an honor and an opportunity for me to help advance the School’s mission by sharing my digital expertise and experiences. SMPA has a top notch global reputation,” The School of Media and Public Affairs is dedicated to the rigorous study of journalism, mass communication and political communication with a focus on understanding the impact media have on how societies inform and govern, connect and communicate. As media undergo transformational change, SMPA’s goal is to advance both theoretical insight and innovative practice. SMPA conducts ground-breaking research, offers inspiring teaching, encourages hands-on work in the field and in our production facilities and engages directly with thought-leaders in Washington, D.C. and around the world. “Emilio is going to be a terrific addition to our Council because he completely understands the new media environment and has built a highly successful company that’s focused on the future,” said Frank Sesno, director of SMPA. “I’m really looking forward to working with Emilio to ensure our school stays creative, innovative, and at the forefront of adopting new media technologies so our students are comprehensively equipped and prepared for the working world.” Sanchez recently was the recipient of Portada magazine’s “Top Digital Media Professional of the Year.” This award recognizes the exceptional contribution of VOXXI to U.S. Hispanic journalism. In 2011, he was named as one of “Florida’s Hispanic Leaders” by Governor Rick Scott. Sanchez is a frequent guest on U.S., Latin American and Spanish television and radio programs, such as Univision’s Al Punto con Jorge Ramos, Andres Oppenheimer Presenta, CNN En Espanol and PBS.
