By: Laynie Kelly | the Marketng Muscle The theme of this year’s World Sight Day is “prevention” The World Health Organisation (WHO), and The International Agency For The Prevention Of Blindness (IAPB), launched an initiative called The Right To Sight. Along with Vision 2020 Australia, the aim is to eliminate avoidable blindness by the year 2020, in order to give all people in the world the right to sight. Locally, it is estimated that in Australia, 75% of blindness and vision loss is preventable or treatable. We must not turn our back on the 500,000+ Australians over age 40 who are living with some form of vision loss, or the 66,000+ who are blind. Funds raised on World Sight Day will be directed to 35 projects in 23 countries around the world. Optometry Giving Sight guarantees that 85% of all funds raised by optometrists and their patients will go directly to support programs that give sight to those most in need.
