Oct. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- Senator Mulcahy said he hoped that the new service would help reverse the eroding of transatlantic services from Shannon and the subsequent negative impact on the West of Ireland economy.

The former Mayor of Shannon added: “Commercial decision makers and business interests in Chicago and the wider US Midwest have for many years invested in the West of Ireland due to the provision of direct flights to the region. Likewise, US tourists have long travelled to the region because of available direct flights. United Airlines’ announcement will help to restore some of the business lost in recent years as a result of a reduction of other transatlantic services.”

“United’s decision to launch this service represents a very positive development in light of the current economic conditions and the corresponding downturn being experienced by the aviation sector. I would call on the people of the Mid West to use the service and in doing so convince United to possibly expand the service in the future,” he concluded.
