Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Maribumi Starchtech Sdn Bhd recently announced it obtained the Environment Technology Verification (ETV) from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for its starch based bag,Zero Plastic. The company endorsed by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water of Malaysia operates a manufacturing plant in Malaysia since 2009 and plans to open a sales office in the Philippines.

Zero Plastic products are made of either tapioca or corn starch combined with other organic ingredients. Current product lines include merchandise, garbage bags and other packaging materials. The product claims of containing no plastic or petroleum is verified as part of the ETV by DOST. The ETV also covered other test done on the product such as combustion testing and biodegradability which meets all international standards.

This product will plug the gap which the plastic ban has created especially in the retail sector which has felt the impact of the ban specifically in the area of customer convenience. It will serve as alternative to other plastic replacement products such as paper bags.

Maribumi Starchtech through its subsidiary Zero Plastic Sdn. Bhd. signed a distribution agreement with Premiere Distribution Network Inc in the Philippines to handle key segments in the Philippines on 27th September 2012. The partnership will also work towards a local production of bags in the Philippines as soon as the sales volume increases.

“We are very happy obtaining the DOST ETV for Zero Plastic which is an important milestone for the Philippines market. Zero Plastic is now ready for the Philippines market with the signing of partnership with Premier.” Mr. M.R. Sivagiri, Group Managing Director of the Maribumi Group said.

“We are confident that our product would be well accepted in Philippines especially to the LGUs that have banned the use of plastic. The LGUs have given green a chance by calling the ban. Zero Plastic will be the answer for that call. ” Mr. Siva adds.
