Earthsave Whistler & Whistler Public Library screening movie "Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home"

Life-changing film, "Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home" will be screening at Whistler Public Library on Tuesday, October 16th at 7pm, with guest speaker Tina James.

Oct. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- The last movie of Earthsave Whistler’s movie series, ‘Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home’ shares incredible stories of those involved in raising animals for food.  The film shatters stereotypical notions of farmers, farm life and the farm animals themselves through following the inspirational journeys of five farmers, an animal rescuer and a humane police officer.

The filmmakers’ first film, The Witness, received such enthusiastic reviews and such a tremendous response from people wanting to help that it inspired them to make another film, “This experience completely changed the course of our lives. We have learned that when people work together in service of something larger and more important than ourselves, making a difference is far easier, and far more rewarding, than we ever imagined possible. In the simplest terms, we have seen with our own eyes that one person's change of heart can truly change the world.” James LaVeck and Jenny Stein, Filmmakers and Co-founders of Tribe of Heart.

Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home has won many awards, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Canada International Film Festival in Vancouver in 2010, Best Feature Documentary at the Moondance International Film Festival and Best of Fest Audience Award at the Berkshire International Film Festival.

Earthsave Whistler has invited Whistler local, Yoga Teacher and passionate animal lover Tina James to lead the discussion after the movie.   Tina has extensive experience in health and wellness and has been teaching yoga for many years.  Her yoga training deepened her love and respect for animals and she shares her passion in her yoga classes and beyond.

Documentary Synopsis:

A riveting story of transformation and healing, PEACEABLE KINGDOM: THE JOURNEY HOME explores the awakening conscience of several people who grew up in traditional farming culture and who have now come to question the basic assumptions of their way of life.

Presented through a woven tapestry of memories, music, and breathtaking accounts of life-altering moments, the film provides insight into the farmers' sometimes amazing connections with the animals under their care, while also making clear the complex web of social, psychological and economic forces that have led them to their present dilemma.

Interwoven with the farmers' stories is the dramatic animal rescue work of a newly-trained humane police officer whose sense of justice puts her at odds with the law she is charged to uphold.

With strikingly honest interviews and rare footage demonstrating the emotional lives and intense family bonds of animals most often viewed as living commodities, this ground breaking documentary shatters stereotypical notions of farmers, farm life, and perhaps most surprisingly, farm animals themselves.

Tina James – Profile:

Originally from Cheltenham, England, Tina later went to Rome and worked with horses, where she competed at an international level. On returning to the UK she became involved in health and fitness, attaining a wide cross section of qualifications and participating in many fields of elite athletic performance. High altitude climbing intrinsically linked with yogic breathing, and witnessing first-hand the destruction of the glaciers were what set Tina upon the path she now passionately follows.

These life experiences have led Tina to find her true vocational calling – learning and teaching Yoga, with her focus on her wish to develop a truly ecologically sustainable Jivamukti centre that incorporates the indigenous peoples of the world and their cultures.

Tina is an Advanced Certified Jivamukti and an E-RYT 500 Teacher. Her well-articulated classes assist her to be an impressive public communicator. Recently her main influence has been the raw, pure and natural beauty of the animals that live close to her forest home in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada.
