Oct. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Malibu, CA—Three college students have independently built and launched a company aiming to provide their peers with recipes, helpful kitchen tips and advice. This low budget startup is a product of over a year of work completed while the founders attended universities and worked hourly jobs. The company intends to build its brand by utilizing social media platforms, hosting on-campus events throughout Southern California and eventually using paid advertising.
This startup has kept it in the family: Justin and Ronald Farber are brothers and the third co-founder, Laura Laskey, is engaged to Justin. These tight connections have allowed the team to work efficiently absent typical trust and communication issues.
Each co-founder has contributed different skills. Ronald, a recent graduate of The Art Institutes International Minnesota, serves as the team’s primary frontend/backend developer and designer. Justin, a Pepperdine University Senior, manages the business development side, content generation and the company’s presence on social media platforms. Laura, a Pepperdine Law student, also develops content and, upon graduation, intends on serving as the company’s in-house counsel.
The build began while all three founders were attending college. “It's quite an endeavor to build a website of this magnitude while in the process finalizing a degree and looking for a full time job,” said Ronald, “but our dedication to the idea allowed us to find the time to work and accomplish our goal.”
“After leaving the family household, too many individuals find themselves eating exclusively prepared and prepackaged food,” Justin noted. “This undoubtedly contributes to the nation’s obesity problem.” To achieve their goal of helping students transition into cooking for themselves, the company will have to educate adolescents in a fun and interactive manner.
The company will initially monetize using Google AdSense and potentially other advertising networks. A large viewership will be crucial to the site’s success. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, as of 2010 there were 21 million persons enrolled in degree-granting post-secondary institutions. This large and self-replenishing demographic provides the company with massive potential.
