Mason County Breathes Easy with Addition of New Testing Equipment at Mason District Hospital

Oct. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Havana, IL  –  Mason District Hospital’s Cardiopulmonary and Sleep Lab department announces the arrival of leading edge equipment to help in the diagnoses of lung disease. The new Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) machine allows for a series of breathing tests to diagnose various types of lung disorders, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), which affect both children and adults.

The PFT machine includes a clear-sided and spacious cabin testing area, called ‘plethysmography’ - for greater testing capabilities, and more comfort for patients. Open cabins create far less stress for patients, especially children. The cabin is large enough to accommodate an adult or a parent holding a small child.

“Having the new PFT machine with the clear cabin area will help us perform testing more accurately, faster and more comfortably for our patients. We are really excited about having this ‘gold standard’ for obtaining clinical lung volume data here at Mason District Hospital,” commented Becky Pigg, CRT and Manager for the Cardiopulmonary and Sleep Lab of Mason District Hospital.
