GEA Pharma Systems - Courtoy™ achieves 100 years of excellence in tablet compression technology

GEA Pharma Systems - Courtoy™ in Belgium, is 100 years old this year.

Oct. 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Since its inception in 1912 it has specialised in the manufacture of tablet presses, primarily for the pharmaceutical industry, and continues to innovate and drive technological development in the industry.  Throughout its history this focus on technology has allowed it to provide continuous improvement in tablet consistency, efficacy and productivity while achieving unrivalled standards in manufacturing flexibility and product containment for its global customers.

The company was started by Edouard Courtoy at his workshop in Halle, near Brussels.  Technological developments since then include: the company’s first rotary tablet press in 1928; its first automatic system for the control of tablet weight within strict tolerances in the 1970s followed by microprocessor control to set and store a range of machine parameters for better product consistency; its first GMP tablet press for pharmaceutical applications in 1978; its first tablet press to handle highly toxic applications; and, in 2002 after joining the GEA Group, the Exchangeable Compression Module (ECM) for better containment and even faster product changeover.

In addition to pharmaceutical applications GEA Pharma Systems - Courtoy™ achieved success for the production of a wide range of products as diverse as double-sided lollipops, ballpoint pens, dishwasher tablets, stock cubes and nuclear fuel pellets.

Coming right up to date, GEA Pharma Systems - Courtoy™ has developed with its sister brand GEA Pharma Systems - Collette™ the long awaited concept of continuous tablet processing, a step change and one that has already set the standard in tableting technology for many years to come.

“We are all very proud of our company’s history and our record in developing powder compression technology, which is always ahead of the competition,” said Jan Vogeleer, the company’s Managing Director.  “We look forward to many more years of doing the same.”
