Sysco Boston Introduces New Plympton Facility
PLYMPTON, MA, ISSUED SEPTEMBER 29, 2012…Sysco Boston LLC recently held an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony to introduce the public to its new, 650,000-square-foot food distribution center.

The all-new, state-of-the art facility is located on 133 acres off Route 44 at the Spring Street interchange and replaces the former Norton location.  The building became operational on June 24, 2012.

“Plympton represents the perfect location to provide us the chance to fulfill our vision of being our customers’ most trusted business partner,” said Fred Casinelli, president of Sysco Boston LLC.  “We look forward to being not only a neighbor but also a friend.”

Michael Hunter, undersecretary for business development in the Executive Office of Housing and Development, pointed out that not only did Sysco Boston retain the jobs they offered in their Norton location, they also added 75 new jobs.  “This is a model from our standpoint of how the public and private sectors should work,” he stated.

Senate President Therese Murray, who was also present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, affirmed that this development is “what happens when municipal government and state government work together – things get done.”

“Plympton is fortunate to have this company,” added State Representative Thomas Calter.  “Not only is Sysco Boston a great corporation, they are a great corporate citizen.  In this time, we need corporations to help out the neighborhoods in which they work.  Sysco gets that.”

Representative Calter also praised the hard work of the Plympton Selectmen, specifically John Henry, chairman of the board of selectmen, and Joe Freitas, a member of the board for 54 years.  “Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity,” Calter said.  “When Lakeville voted [no on changing the zoning laws which would allow Sysco to build], Joe and John were prepared with a shovel-ready site and made it happen.”

“What they’ve done for Plympton is fantastic,” Freitas added.  “We have the ideal situation.”
