Las Vegas Businesswoman Campaigning to Become Commencement Speaker at Spelman College in 2013

Sumayah Hodges Attempts to Follow in the Footsteps of Michelle Obama and Oprah to Make Her Daughters Dream Come True
Sept. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- What would you do if your child asked you to speak at their college graduation ceremony? To follow in the footsteps of Michelle Obama and Oprah? For Sumayah Hodges of Las Vegas, the answer was quick and simple.

I looked her directly in the eye and answered, “ I’m going to be that woman,” recalled Hodges of the conversation with her daughter LaMayah, a graduate of the Agassi Academy in Las Vegas and now a senior at Spelman College, a prestigious Historically Black College and University in (HBCU) in Atlanta, GA.

Now comes the hard part for Hodges, founder and CEO of Grannz Beauty Center in Las Vegas. The distance from Las Vegas to Atlanta is nearly 2,000 miles, and Hodges has taken the first step by launching the “Sumayah Takes Flight” campaign to become the Commencement Speaker at the 2013 graduation for Spelman College.

      The video is available at

Hodges is asking supporters to spread the word and LIKE the campaign on Facebook and follow her journey on Twitter in hopes of bringing attention to her submission to be commencement speaker to the administrators at Spelman.
