Sept. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Calgary, Alberta – During a warm sunny afternoon in late September, approximately 30 employees, residents family members and friends of Millrise Place, a seniors’ assisted living residence in SW Calgary, walked a 3.4 km route in nearby Fish Creek park and raised $11,272 for the Alzheimer Society of Calgary.

“We liked the concept of raising funds for a like-minded organization like the Alzheimer Society of Calgary that is committed to educating the public about dementia. They want to elevate it from a misunderstood disease to an important cause for the public and policy makers,” says Colleen Baxter, Millrise Place’s Marketing & Resident Relations Manager.

Added Baxter, “One in 11 Canadians over the age of 65 has Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Many adults still think of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias as being about our parent’s or grandparent’s generation. However that is changing and Alzheimer’s is rapidly becoming a part of our generation.”

“We wanted our fundraising to have a local impact.  We were very pleased to learn that our funds would stay in Calgary to provide the Alzheimer Society of Calgary with the financial resources to provide ongoing vital programs and services to people with Alzheimer's disease, their families and caregivers.”

Baxter explained Millrise Place and its employees pride themselves on giving back to the health care community in which they work.  “The Alzheimer Society of Calgary is an ideal recipient of our fundraising efforts, that ties in perfectly with our employees’ daily practice of making a difference in the lives of Calgary seniors.”
