Sept. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- In a recent health alert, HealthyAnswers.com warned readers of the dangers of nutritional deficiencies from poor diets.  Citing several key research findings from various sources, HealthyAnswers.com (http://www.healthyanswers.com/) reports the significance of key vitamins, minerals and hormones:

Vitamin A:  Retinoic acid, derived from vitamin A, has been found to inhibit breast tumor growth [Vitamin A derivative can inhibite early forms of breast cancer, Fox Chase Cancer Center, April 5, 2012]; research from Harvard Medical School has also shown that Vitamin A protects against retinitis pigmentosa  [Clinical trial of lutein in patients with retinitis pigmentosa receiving Vitamin A, Berson EL, et al, Harvard Medical School].

B12:  HealthyAnswers.com reveals studies that show many people over 40 to be deficient in vitamin B12. One report by the USDA [B12 deficiency more widespread than thought, Tufts-Framingham study], shows that nearly 2/5th of Americans have B12 deficiencies.  It can lead to diseases like Alzheimer’s, neurological disorders including MS and tinnitus, cardiovascular disease, to name a few.

Vitamin C:  A major antioxidant, Vitamin C has been proven in numerous research studies from the Linus Pauling Institute to aid in the prevention of many diseases, including cancer.

Vitamin D:  HealthyAnswers.com cites U.S. government statistics, and private research done at universities around the country, that tell how Vitamin D – a master steroid-like hormone/vitamin that regulates many body functions – is more widespread than estimated. One of those studies out of Utah State University by Christine Arnold, Ph.D in 2010 [Vitamin D deficiency in the United States  – how common is it?] shows that the highest risk groups for Vitamin D deficiency are older people, obese people, people with darker skin, people with limited sun exposure.

HealthyAnswers.com relays Dr.Arnold’s conclusions that people need at least 1,000 IU of Vitamin a day from supplements or sun exposure.

The HealthyAnswers.com alert also warns of deficiencies in other nutritional substances. Read the entire article here: (http://www.healthyanswers.com/general_articles/2012/08/su...)

HealthyAnswers.com resident medical expert, Mark Rosenberg, M.D., further explains the warning: “Depleted soils and environmental pollutants account for the loss of critical vitamins, minerals and other nutritional substances from our foods. Many researchers and doctors, including myself, agree that many illnesses have their root in nutritional deficiencies. Taking out nutritional insurance, in the form of vitamin/mineral supplements, can help prevent many diseases.”
