RecruitMilitary Places Second in National Competition for Facebook Pages

The military-to-civilian recruitment firm RecruitMilitary has finished second in Social Media Examiner’s Top 10 Small Business Facebook Pages competition for 2012. More than 500 companies were nominated for the list.

Sept. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Cincinnati, OH – The military-to-civilian recruitment firm RecruitMilitary has finished second in Social Media Examiner’s Top 10 Small Business Facebook Pages competition for 2012. More than 500 companies were nominated for the list. Social Media Examiner’s judges narrowed that number to 23, and then made the final cut. The judges analyzed the nominees’ landing pages, engagement, reader involvement, creative use of promotions, and other factors:

RecruitMilitary connects employers, franchisors, and educational institutions with job seekers who have military backgrounds – men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, veterans who already have civilian work experience, members of the National Guard and reserves, and military spouses and other family members. Through social media, the company provides those job seekers with job opportunities, information, tips and advice, military facts, up-to-date job-seeking news, and a platform for networking.  

Liz Wheeler, RecruitMilitary’s social media manager, creates and manages the company’s brand presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, and Pinterest. She also writes the RecruitMilitary blog and works with clients to develop social media campaigns. Wheeler began working for RecruitMilitary in August 2011. Since then, the company’s Facebook following has grown to 43,000 fans, with soaring numbers of daily engagements.

Wheeler’s own military connection goes back two generations – one of her grandfathers served during World War II, and the other served during the Korean War. Wheeler is working toward a bachelor’s degree in political science, with a minor in homeland security, from Penn State University.

RecruitMilitary produces a nationwide schedule of Veteran Opportunity Expos – job fairs that are enhanced to include franchisors and educational institutions as well as corporate and government employers. The company also offers subscriptions (search licenses) to its database of more than 500,000 registered candidates who have military backgrounds at, job postings, candidate sourcing services, and advertising space in online and print media. RecruitMilitary distributes more than 38,000 copies of each issue of Search & Employ®, a bimonthly print magazine, to over 220 military bases throughout the world, National Guard and reserve units, and job seekers who attend its expos. Drew Myers, a former captain in the United States Marine Corps, founded RecruitMilitary in 1998. All of the company’s owners and officers, and most of its other employees have served in the armed forces.
In November 2011, RecruitMilitary received the First Annual Lee Anderson Small Business Veteran and Military Spouse Employment Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ( The Chamber recognized RecruitMilitary as a specific business that has “gone above and beyond to honor the sacrifices our military families make in their service to our nation.”

In February 2012, RecruitMilitary received the first annual One More Way Award from The Sierra Group Foundation. The foundation established the award to recognize people or companies whose support results in awareness and job opportunities for people with disabilities.
