Sept. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Phil Jones, a 25 year old professional BMXer from Gastonia, North Carolina has joined the Guerra BMX team. He got his first bike when he was ten and hasn’t stopped since. Phil is known for being a burly street rider and known for going big on his 20” BMX bike.
Sometimes going big can lead to an unexpected crash that has big consequences. On October 29th, 2006 Phil Jones fell at a contest in Orlando, Florida. The crash resulted in a fractured skull, broke jaw, hearing loss in his left ear and fighting for his life.  Phil remembers that moment; “Knowing that you are about to die is the sickest and most horrifying feeling ever. I was touched by an angle. Stoked to be here!”

Someone in the crowd captured the fall and it was featured, along with Phil, on MTV’s Scarred TV Show.  “A random kid was documenting the contest and happen to snag my fall.” Said Phil, “a few months had passed, and I get a call from MTV asking if they could interview me. They had offered me some cash, so I said sure ha-ha. Everyone likes money. I still can't watch the whole video to this day.”
But that crash has not slowed Phil down one bit! He rides like there is no tomorrow. But one thing you won’t catch him without is his BMX Helmet. ( When he was 16 a skateboarder from Gastonia died from falling on his head without a helmet. “His buddies say if he had been wearing a helmet he would still be here. Ever since I have always worn one.” Said Phil. “I don't understand why most riders don't wear them. If I didn't have one on when I crashed, I would be gone.” You can see proof of Phil both going big and being safe at the same time in his first Guerra BMX video (

More than just more than just his bike inspires Phil. A few years ago his younger brother was paralyzed in a swimming accident leaving him with no movement from his hands down to his feet. Phil says that his bother has progressed a lot and has spirits higher than most people, “He is full of laughter and confidence, which is the main reason why he motivates and inspires me to live life the good way. Even when times get tough I think of him and things seem to fall into place.” His brother just recently graduated high school and plans to attend college.

Not only does Phil ride but he also has taken on another aspect of the sport, filming. He started up Philthy Films ( to show people what is going on in his life. The reason he started it was simple; “The Charlotte area was lacking a video camera, so I got one. My friends go hard on a bike. I try to get them or whomever I come across as much coverage as possible. Making edits and taking photos of them has made me love BMX even more.”

So as you can see Phil Jones has more going on than most people. And with some of the circumstances in his life you have to be more than impressed with what he has accomplished. Every one at Guerra BMX is extremely stoked to have Phil Jones on the team. We can’t wait to see what comes out from him next!
