-- Dr. Mirtha Amador of Gables Exceptional Dentistry in Coral Gables, FL recently returned from a week long volunteer mission in Mindo, Ecuador. The medical mission in which Amador was involved is part of a three part program titled Mindo Futures which also includes a tuition assistance and supplies program and an educational bridge program that gives locals the opportunity to obtain a college education at a university in Quito, Ecuador. Mindo Futures is a non-profit organization that helps orphans and the surrounding community in Mindo through professional and volunteer work.
This year a group of 100 doctors, nurses, and volunteers traveled to Mindo to provide medical and dental service to approximately 500 local kids, 300 of which are orphans. “They only receive attention once a year when we go” says Amador. “The group consists of around 30 physicians and nurses and the rest are non-medical volunteers who assist us and go to give love to this community.” Most of the medical and non-medical volunteers share the same sentiments as Amador and feel grateful for the opportunity to serve this community who are only provided with necessary medical attention once a year.
Mindo Futures has a goal to expand the mission every year and has lived up to this goal since the program’s inception. The Mindo Futures Mission is open to the aid of doctors, dentists, nurses and volunteers of all religions, creeds, and walks of life.
