Sept. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Science, Engineering, Mathematics Link Inc (SEM Link) partners with Youth Speaks  and The I.S.I.S. Project to host the 2nd annual STEMposium to provide exposure opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to the Life is Living Festival. This family friendly event is on Saturday, October 13, 2012, from 10:00 am-4:00 pm at DeFremery Park in conjunction with the Life is Living Festival. Life is Living, a national campaign of Youth Speaks, is an environmental empowerment campaign and festival that seeks to re-brand environmentalism or Green Economies as Sustaining Life. “SEM Link is excited to be a part of this event that exposes youth to STEM in a nontraditional setting. If we want to encourage youth to pursue STEM careers we have to be creative about the ways we engage them in hands on STEM activities and provide them with out of school time educational opportunities,” says Ms. Tokiwa T. Smith, SEM Link Founder and Executive Director.

The STEMposium consists of hands on STEM activities as well as the  ILL Science stage that will feature both Science and Hip Hop.  The hands on STEM activities, will be conducted by members of the Bay Area STEM community that represent various academic institutions, corporations, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. The ILL Science Stage will feature Green Hip Hop Artists Earth Amplified, DJ Cavem and other special guests.  "The I.S.I.S. Project is very excited about this year's STEMposium with in the Life is Living Festival. It will be a great opportunity for Oakland youth to connect with science and culture in a new way," shares Mr. Kamel Jacot-Bell of The I.S.I.S. Project.
