Roommatefit Releases Making Plans with Your Roommates

Roommatefit.com, a service that pairs off roommates based on their personalities for a more enjoyable living situation, examines how to master the art of making plans with your roommates, so you don’t end up alone on a Friday night.

Sept. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Often I’ve found that the hardest, most irritating part of living with other people is communicating effectively with them. Communication is something that we all assume will come easily and naturally to the group, especially if there are many shared interests among us or we have work/class schedules that correspond almost perfectly with our roommate’s. But it really doesn’t; communication has to be worked at, tended carefully, and maintained, or else it will most certainly break down at some point during the lease on your apartment.

Believe me, I have been that guy who puts his fate, his only day off in the week, his weekend night, in the hands of his roommates, trusting that they’ll think to inform him of their plans without being asked, waiting for that benevolent call or text that will not come because his roommates have already gone out and think that his silence means he’s busy. Guess what, my assumptions have never led me to that promised land of roommate bonding; on many nights I have been the guy who waits for the rest of the group, whose only company for the night turns out to be the cast of some B or C movie, or the players in a game of Australian Rules Football, the “rules” of which I have yet to figure out (but it’s the mystery of this sport that keeps me tuned in).

If you want to get out of the apartment, if you want to have one of those nights that your roommates will be talking about for weeks, that will be sung like an epic poem thirty-five years down the road at the reunion—won’t you want to say, “I was there. I’m a part of that legend”—you MUST be persistent. Take your night into your own hands. Don’t wait for phone calls or texts. Send them out yourself. Get informed. Better yet, remain ahead of your group by taking the reigns; be the plan-maker! Just remember this, not everyone will share the strange liking you’ve developed for Australian Rules Football; so if you want to have a sport night, stick with College Football.
