Follow on Google News | Thom Collier Seeks Seat As Knox County CommissionerIn the upcoming election this fall, Thom Collier hopes to fill the position of Knox County Commissioner soon to be vacated by Alan Stockberger.
The youngest of nine children, Thom Collier was born and raised in Mount Vernon. “I have been deeply involved in the community for many years and am looking forward to serving the public as county commissioner. I will continue to be responsive to the people of Knox County and committed to fiscal responsibility” As a state representative for eight years, Thom built an impressive conservative record, twice winning the Watchdog of the Treasury Award from the United Conservatives of Ohio. Among other achievements, Thom was instrumental in shaping a corporate tax reform package that eliminated the corporate franchise tax and tangible personal property tax, and cut the income tax of every Ohioan by 21 percent. He was also honored locally, receiving the Outstanding Service to Agriculture from the Knox County Farm Bureau award. “During my time in the legislature, I worked closely with county commissioners and township trustees around the state. I understand the issues facing our county and want to be a part of a team of commissioners that will lead us into the future. As a lifelong resident, I want to protect the rural nature of Knox County while also using my experience to enhance the economic opportunities here” Collier stated. In 2003, Collier received the coveted designation of “Henry Toll Fellow” which is the highest nationwide designation from the Council of State Governments, a designation earned by less than 50 state government officials across the country annually, from all three branches of government. A natural born leader, Collier has repeatedly used his gifts to improve the community of Knox County. Over the past 30 years, he has been active in a number of local organizations including his church, American Cancer Society, Care Net, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, Toastmasters, Marriage Encounter, National Speakers Association, and served on the local, district and national boards for the National Exchange Club. Collier resides in Mount Vernon with his wife Diane and their two daughters, Cathern and Natoli.
