Delighted Exhibitors Praise Bigger, Better SAITEX

This year’s Southern African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX) surpassed all expectations. Combined with its co-located food and beverage sister show, Africa’s Big Seven (AB7), the joint event drew 894 multi-national exhibitors and 15 253 visitors, confirming it as the biggest business opportunities show in Africa. It took place from 15 to 17 July at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Gauteng.

SA Tops for United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates had a strong delegation at this year’s expo with 30% more exhibitors than previous years. “South Africa is at the top of our list of countries to explore for business and trade opportunities,” says Mohammed Ali Al Kamali, a director of Dubai Exports. “SAITEX is an excellent platform for any exporter interested in expanding into international markets.”

Signed, Sealed and On Board for 2013
One of the many exhibitors that signed business agreements was Brazil Trade SA, a South African trade marketing company that organises business group visits to trade fairs for Brazilian companies.

“As a result of SAITEX, we have formed a joint venture with a Brazilian manufacturer worth     $3-million turnover in the first year,” says Jose Dias, Commercial Director. “Most of the visitors to our stand were serious about doing business. I have been attending SAITEX for a number of years; it is particularly well-organised and professionally run. I have already reserved my space for 2013.”
The Perfect Platform
“SAITEX is the perfect platform to create market hype around your business, network with like-minded business people, and gain access to your market,” says a delighted Dirk Pienaar, Tourism Manager of Khomani San, a tourism company specialising in travel to Southern Africa’s arid Northern Cape region. This is the first time the company has taken part in SAITEX.

“We signed two contracts during the show and one afterwards; we are following up several other prospects as a result of contacts we made at the show,” continues Pienaar. “Amazingly, even the Chinese delegation visited us at the show; and the Swiss Import Promotion Initiative (SIPPO) invited us to discuss how we can infiltrate their market; they invited me to their business workshop.”

“It’s brilliant! It has been the best expo I’ve ever seen - and I’ve seen many,” says Tracy Rieger, Marketing Manager at the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa. The organisation endorsed the event for the first time this year. “Despite the show’s massive scale, its organisation has been excellent. The quality of the leads was very good, and just dealing with the organisers of the event was awesome.”

Ntokozo Biyela, CEO of Mzanzi Mobile Fridges, says he will definitely sign up for 2013. The KwaZulu-Natal based company specialises in the manufacture of mobile fridge units, mobile kitchen units and mobile VIP toilet units for Africa.

“The exhibition always offers a good mix of clientèle under one roof,” says Biyela. “We were able to forge a number of partnerships with some corporate companies; the start of win-win relationships that enhance our business.”

“We’ve had excellent responses from all our participating companies,” says Shamser Nayyar of the Agri and Processed Products Export Authority in India. “We brought 12 companies, mainly in the food and textile industries, and this is the first year we have participated on such a large scale. We are enormously excited about the number of queries and real follow-ups on possible deals.”

Invaluable Exposure
“The show enables me to meet existing clients and provides opportunities of finding new clients and making new deals,” says Quintin Booysen, marketing and sales manager of Pan Mixers, Africa’s largest manufacturer of concrete brick, block and paving machinery. “Basically it means invaluable exposure and imminent sales. Last year we signed a deal worth R1,2-million during the expo. “I am definitely signing up again for 2013.”

Show Exceeds Expectations

“SAITEX and AB7 is the largest gathering of business opportunities in Africa, and this year it far exceeded our expectations,” says John Thomson of Exhibition Management Services, organisers of the show. “With more international exhibitors despite the sluggish world economy, it illustrates that companies are getting excellent value for money.”
