Christendom College to Hold Annual Golf Tournament
Christendom College will hold its annual Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club in Front Royal, Va.
Ranked as the #4 best course to play in Virginia by Golfweek Magazine, Blue Ridge Shadows will provide participants with a wonderful chance to enjoy the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley, a great game of golf, and the opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause.
“We were able to award two scholarships this year and we are hopeful to have the best tournament yet,” Athletic Director and tournament organizer Chris Vander Woude says. “This tournament enables us to give excellent student-athletes the opportunity to attend Christendom. Each year, I have only heard great reviews from the participants of the tournament—from prizes and contests to a beautiful setting and course. I am very excited for year three of this great event that contributes to an even greater cause.”
Sponsorships opportunities are still available. To become a sponsor or to register for this event, visit christendom.edu/
The Thomas S. Vander Woude Memorial Scholar-Athlete Scholarship strives to offer students who excel in academics, leadership, and athletics the chance to attend Christendom. Former Athletic Director Tom Vander Woude—for whom the scholarship is named—died saving the life of his youngest son on September 8, 2008. He was dedicated to the character development and personal formation of young people, especially in the areas of both intercollegiate and intramural athletics.
Recipients of the scholarship are given the opportunity, as Thomas Vander Woude believed, to be formed mentally, spiritually, and physically. The scholarship is awarded to two incoming freshmen each year, as funds permit. More scholarships hope to be added in the future, and efforts are being made to establish an endowment for the scholarship fund, providing a truly lasting legacy.
