Sept. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Reba Shepard of the Woman’s Club of Stuart, is hoping that longtime residents may have some forgotten memories of the Club tucked away in storage or in the attic.  The Woman’s Club of Stuart is the oldest women’s organization to operate continuously in Martin County. It celebrates its 100th year in 2013 and committees are planning events throughout the year.
Reba Shepard is chairing the history committee with co-chair Helen Engebretsen. “Our committee has discovered about 15 scrapbooks that were made by the Club Presidents over the years. We think there could be many more, “ Reba stated.
Existing scrapbooks are from 1956, 1963, 1964-65, 1967, 1971-77,1979, 1980-83, 1986, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2001-02, 2011.
The scrapbooks are archives of the Club’s history, its projects and the women who were community activists.  With the help of local historians Sandra Thurlow and Alice Luckhart, they are bringing alive the decades of rich history.
If you have treasures to share or questions, please contact Reba Shepard at 288-4606 or by email at rshepfl@bellsouth.net.
Pat Schmader and Anne Schafer have monthly events planned that will highlight the Club’s history and achievements.  “We want to share our stories with the entire community and we encourage the public to attend, “ commented Pat Schmader.
Beginning in January 2013, the festivities will begin in tribute to the legacy of those who led the way. At the monthly luncheons, members will be sharing the history and accomplishments of the Club. The public is welcome to attend.
On Friday, October 11, 2013, there will be a VIP party followed by a Community Open House on Saturday, October 12, 2013. There will also be a fashion show featuring vintage outfits on March 21, an introduction to the early settler’s families, presentation of the past presidents of the Club and many more compelling tributes to their 100 years of history.
Meetings are held at the Woman’s Club at 729 E. Ocean Boulevard in Stuart. For further information visit their website at www.womansclubofstuart.com or phone 772-288-3227.
