“The Everest region is understandably one of the world’s most popular and spectacular hiking destinations” The Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon is probably the most adventurous trail run in the world. One World’s adventurous journey takes you to the foot of the south face of Mount Everest in Nepal. The race actually begins at Everest Base Camp near the edge of the Khumbu Icefall below the Western Cwm of Everest! In order to acclimatize for the race, runners will first trek from Lukla, after a scenic 40 minute flight from Kathmandu, whereupon they head to Monjo Village and the following day to Namche Bazaar. On the journey to Everest Base Camp and while in the Mount Everest National Park, the runners will visit Buddhist monasteries and wander through small farming villages. The group will have the option of hiking to the top of the viewpoint peak of Kala Pattar (18,188 feet), before spending the day (and night camping) at Everest Base Camp on the very day Mount Everest was first climbed by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. The race begins at 7am sharp on May 29, 2013. This is a special trip not to be missed and is already guaranteed to go!
