Spotlight Kid announce release of US deluxe edition “Disaster Tourist” on Saint Marie RecordsSpotlight Kid have announced the release of a deluxe edition of “Disaster Tourist” on US shoegaze/dreampop label Saint Marie Records on 13 November 2012.
The album will include five bonus tracks including the cover of Simple Minds “Don’t You (Forget about me)”, exclusive tracks recorded live for BBC 6music as well as the extremely rare Crystal Dreams ep. It will be available in the US, Canada, South America, Japan & South East Asia. Following a series of limited edition gig-only EPs and sold-out 7” singles, Spotlight Kid’s debut single proper, ‘There’s A Reason Why’ (July 2011), was added to Radio 1’s ‘In New Music We Trust’ playlist, and they performed at the Glastonbury Festival, following support slots with The Joy Formidable and Esben & The Witch. They followed this with their own UK headline tour later in the year. Disaster Tourist opens with the thumping bass-driven ‘Plan Comes Apart’, Singer Katty Heath’s vocals are curiously akin to that of Alison Goldfrapp and MBV’s Bilinda Butcher, all softly woven through the white noise and Krautrock-ish time signatures. ‘April’ floats on a spiralling bass line, evoking prime Ride, where ‘Creeps’ allows the vocals more space to take centre stage before the psychedelic stomp of guitars and Chris Davis’ drums ignite for the chorus. The album concludes on the sub seven minute ‘Pulled Apart By Horses’, which reverberates away with a suitably dreamy, pulsating feedback-strewn refrain. Saint Marie Records founder Wyatt Parkins said: “ We are delighted to add Spotlight Kid to the Saint Marie family. We are looking forward to working with them on this record, with a plan to release a new full length early next year. They exploded onto the scene as an unsigned band at one of the biggest festivals in the world, Glastonbury, and showed why they are described as one of the best live bands around. We are very excited to have them on our roster”. “there's little doubt that Spotlight Kid's status as one of the most innovative bands treading the UK circuit is all but assured” - 8/10 Drowned In Sound “Did someone order shimmering shards, with a side order of cathedraline majesty? Spotlight Kid, are musicians unduly preoccupied with generating a noise best described in terms glacial and/or ecclesiastical” “A sweet, sad record full of wide-eyed wonder and a charming, youthful naivety.” - The Fly Magazine Press: wyatt@saintmarierecords.com Bookings: lee@selectbookingagency.co.uk Website: http://www.spotlightkidsound.co.uk http://www.saintmarierecords.com Band contacts: robmccleary1@ chrisdavis6x7@ Photos: https://www.prlog.org/ https://www.prlog.org/ https://www.prlog.org/ End
