Sept. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- With the continuous influx of baby boomers requiring in-home care, there has been a need in the healthcare community to create a way for these patients to take better care of themselves while not in the immediate care of others. With healthcare technology on the rise, eCaring meets that need with creating a home healthcare management system for the ever-growing elderly population. HIT Consultant Founder Fred Pennic discusses this trend with eCaring CEO Robert Herzog in the most recent podcast series featured on www.hitconsultant.net.

“With the adoption of accountable care organizations (ACO) models that provides chronic disease management while lowering costs, home healthcare will become more reliable on the utilization of home healthcare monitoring and management system technology for elderly care,” states Pennic. “Healthcare providers are forced to reduce costs and avoid emergency room overcrowding while dealing with the lack of available staffs and patient beds. The U.S. market for advanced patient monitoring systems has grown from $3.9 billion in 2007 to $8.9 billion in 2011 and is forecast to reach $20.9 billion by 2016, according to a study by Kalorama Information.  According to the report, hospitals, physician offices, home healthcare facilities and nursing homes will embrace remote and wireless patient monitoring devices, such as blood pressure monitors and glucose meters, to transmit patient data between different locations using wireless networks. Something that healthcare definitely needs in this sector.”

The two-part 15-minute podcast series covers eCaring, the company’s approach to managing healthcare from home and why it began in the first place.

“eCaring really grew out of my personal experiences by taking care of my mother,” started Herzog. “And I realized there was a real need here. So, I worked with artists, technology people, social workers, people who provided homecare aides and who used them and [the] patients and we really pulled together a system which is a web-based, home healthcare managing and monitoring system so that for the first time, you can get comprehensive, real-time, extensive data about the care conditions, status and activities of the homecare recipient  in a way that is useful and in a digital format so that you can track all of the things that are critical for what’s going on in their life and that’s what eCaring does.”
