By: Graham Downs
"I hope people will see this story as a breath of fresh air," said Downs. "In the first place, because it's a story that I hope fans of the fantasy genre will not have read before. In the second place, because it's short. Let's face it, Tolkein, Goodkind and Brooks were/are amazing writers. The problem is, their stories are really epic. In this day and age, very few people have the time or span of attention to finish such a story. To my knowledge, there aren't many well-written short stories in the genre of fantasy. I have tried to ensure that 'A Petition to Magic' is of the highest possible quality, and at only 5 000 words, anyone should be able to read it in under half an hour!"
A synopsis of "A Petition to Magic" follows:
The last time Solon the wizard performed magic, something terrible happened. He swore he would never cast another spell as long as he lived.
Now, he faces a terrible decision: break his vow, and risk the loss of an innocent life, or do nothing and see a potentially innocent man put to death.
Queen Celeste rose to power a month ago, after the sudden death of her mother.
Desperate to prove herself, she agrees to hear the case of a simple farmer who claims a neighbour stole his cow.
In an effort to provide food for himself and his family, Marcus now seeks the help of a new queen. Will she help him in his plight?
The book is available to purchase from a variety of online stores. See the following blog post by the author, for a full list:
