Kroger Raises More Than $41,000 For Cancer Research Through V Foundation Icon Golf Ball Sale

Nation’s Largest Grocery Retailer Surpasses Money Collected For The Cause In 2011 By More Than $15,000

Sept. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C. – The Kroger Co.  (http://www.kroger.com/), the nation’s largest traditional grocery retailer with 16 stores throughout the Triangle and North Carolina, has announced that it raised $41,048.99 for the V Foundation to benefit cancer research by selling $1 and $5 paper golf ball icons at all its participating mid-Atlantic stores from July 29 through Aug 18. The dollar amount raised surpassed the total Kroger raised for cancer research in 2011 by more than $15,000.

All money was collected in advance of the annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic held Aug. 26 at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State University, which brings together celebrities, local and national sponsors and more than 700 volunteers in an effort to raise money for cancer research. Kroger served as the official volunteer sponsor of the classic and donated gift cards as well as produce to supplement 750 sandwiches made by Good Meadows for tournament participants. Since its start in 1993, the V Foundation has raised more than $120 million to fund cancer research nationwide.
