Assisted Living Locators Atlanta Offers Free Health Seminar To Local Senior Care Professionals

Sept. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- While the majority of people remember receiving the “sex talk” from their parents, more often today, adult children caregivers and caregivers in general are faced with this reality of discussing the birds and the bees with aging parents.

“Senior and elders are living more active and diverse lifestyles than ever before which includes sex,” explained Maria de la Guardia, co-owner of Assisted Living Locators Atlanta. “This reality expands the conversation concerning senior health issues and we want to arm area caregivers with good information to facilitate this conversation.”

   With this seminar, titled: Ethical Dilemmas Concerning Sex and the Senior Population, Triff Cook, MBA, CMC, home care assistance will offer a wealth of useful information for area senior care providers to help them address these issues of sex, sexual abuse and dealing with cultural attitudes toward sex.      

   Cook will draw from her experience in home care assistance to delve deeper into this issue with the goal of promoting a more open and honest dialogue in reference to senior sexual activity. With approximately 29 million seniors over 50 actively seeking love and companionship and more than a million seniors 65 and older seeking dates via the internet the traditional notion that elders don’t have sex is just not the case anymore. Cook will also examine case studies in a discussion how caregivers can better advocate for senior health related to sex and adherence to ethical standards regarding seniors and sex.
