By: Group 7even Deer meat is a great protein option for those that are in need of food from area food pantries. During deer season, hunters who wish to donate deer meat to neighbors in need can do so by collaborating with People Gotta Eat. Meat should be delivered to Jawaorski’s Meat Market, who has generously agreed to process the deer meat for a reduced fee of $50 per deer. Non-hunters who want to help can donate $50 (the cost of processing one deer) to People Gotta Eat. The goal is to raise $2,500 for processing costs and receive 50 deer for distribution to area food pantries. Each deer will produce approximately 50 pounds of meat. Checks can be made payable to People Gotta Eat and mailed to United Way of St. Joseph County at 3517 East Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46615. People Gotta Eat is an initiative of United Way of St. Joseph County and is a partnership of 16 local food pantries working together to help individuals and families meet the increasing need for food.
