Sept. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- I love some cowboy stories, I’ll tell ya that! Kathleen Ball has created a sexy one in Burke Dawson, that’s for sure! This is my first Kathleen Ball novel and I can say happily that it will not be last. I loved the way the story was written, the way the characters were created and the attraction between sparked. This book is very moving and full of such emotion that I couldn’t help but feel as if I was in the center of it all.

Annie is a sweet, innocent character. Her past is very layered. She was abused by her stepfather in the worst of ways, she was used by her ex fiance, and her stepbrother. I felt so bad for her that so many times I had tears in my eyes. All she wanted was true love, and to return that love to someone. When she makes the trip to Texas to see the land her stepbrother purchased, she meets handsome cowboy rancher Burke Dawson…..and nearly fell in love on site. But, she’s cautious of men.

Burke Dawson is cautious of women. Burned by a citified ex-wife who just wanted money, he knows he needs a wife to partner with on the ranch. So, he’s on the hunt for one. Then he meets Annie. A beautiful, young, sweet woman who ends up on his land….claiming that half of it is her stepbrother’s, never realizing that his greedy ex-wife sold off her share. There’s something about Annie, though, that he can’t get over. Proposing to her, and having as a wife is the last thing he expected to do, but he does it….but can keep his heart in tact? Or will the attraction and desire he feels for her lead to more?

Enter the ex-wife and using stepbrother. I wanted to hate these characters so much! But, I couldn’t because they were the perfect villainous addition to the story, adding the suspenseful element of trying to separate Burke and Annie. Great character additions!

I definitely recommend this start to a wonderful cowboy series by this highly talented author! It’s 5 Book worthy, filled with captivating characters, and a plot line of true love, second chances, and deep devotion. I am looking forward to reading book two in this western series, Rylee’s Cowboy, very soon! I can’t wait to see these amazing characters again :-) . Fantastic job, Ms. Ball!
