What is an SR-22 and Why Do I Need One?

The post starts by discussing what an SR-22 is, "SR stands for safety responsibility and an SR-22 is a form that provides proof to the state that you are carrying the amount of insurance that is required by the state...one of the important things to note is that an SR-22 is not something you will ever see and it is not something you take down to the DMV yourself.  Typically it is electronically filed and it goes directly from your insurance company to the DMV."

The article goes on to talk about the reasons you may need an SR-22, "You may need it because you got into a car accident while you were uninsured or because you were convicted of a DUI or other traffic-related offense.  An SR-22 may be required for 3 years for driving without insurance or driving with a suspended license or up to 5 years  for a DUI."
