Mobile Application Creates A Deterrent For Dangerous Drivers

Catch-Em Creators Hoping To Bring Life-Saving App To The U.S.

Sept. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Catch-em, a mobile app built to deter dangerous drivers, has been downloaded thousands of times in Israel and now seeks to raise enough money to bring its promise of safer streets to the United States.

The application lets users capture dangerous and aggressive drivers in the act and submit them to Catch-em, where the images are screened and posted online for public voting to determine whether a violation has occurred. If the submission receives enough “Yes” votes, the incident is passed along to local authorities.

“Auto accidents kill more than 40,000 Americans every single year,” explained founder and CEO Gene Goldman. “Imagine if all of us had the power to bring that number down significantly, just by using a device we already carry in our pockets.”

The goal of Catch-em, built by Safer Community Living, Ltd., is to make dangerous drivers think twice before putting lives at risk. Said Goldman, “think about how you drive when you see a police car in your rearview mirror.  If we can create that impact on all of our roads, how many thousands of those deaths can be avoided?”

The company hopes to raise $50,000 to build and deploy a U.S.-version of the app, and is doing so through a campaign on crowdfunding site IndieGogo.com. The campaign can be found at http://www.indiegogo.com/p/189262 and will run until September 25th.

Not only has the application been downloaded thousands of times in Israel since its late July launch, but the product is finding consistent traction among its users. Nearly 70% of users who try the app end up using it again, and four cases, deemed by voters to represent possible infractions, have been passed on to Jerusalem’s police department. An additional four cases have been sent to the safety officer of Israel’s largest bus company, a customer of Catch-em (called Nirsham in Israel).

The crowdfunding campaign is letting donors choose which states the application will be launched in first, with the winners being determined by the states with the highest total amount raised. If the campaign does not reach the $50,000 goal, donors do not get charged and Safer Community Living receives nothing.
