Catering By Design Supports Owner Chef Greg Lewis Reopening the Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store

Sept. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Earlier this year, Pittsboro community residents were heartbroken when The General Store Café closed its doors. Chef Greg Lewis, owner of Catering By Design reopened the restaurant as the Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store on Friday, August 17, 2012.

Over 150 guests attended the ribbon cutting and open house on August 17th. Over 900 guests were served during the opening weekend, and community members who attended on Friday evening were treated to the sounds of live local music from the ZamBamBooGee band.

Concluding the weekend celebratory events included an open dinner in support of Guardians of Angels Humane Society, which plans to build an animal adoption center based in Pittsboro. Over 150 guests were served for this special event hosted by Chef Greg Lewis and PBS' Roy Underhill.

With new décor, floors, lighting, serving stations and chairs, the Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store will still have the feel of what it has always been, a place for people to talk and lounge.

Chef Greg comments, “The General Store was such a big part of Pittsboro, and Pittsboro was a big part of the General Store. My family felt a big emptiness when it left, and we didn’t want to let it go. We wanted to do something about it.”

Chef Greg will bring his experience of running a full service catering company to offer a broader menu with a new twist on some classic dishes. The new cuisine will include a tilapia po’boy sandwich; mac and cheese with smoked gouda and cheddar cheeses and black forest ham; chilled calamari, Italian egg rolls, and a classic cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato packed between two grilled cheese sandwiches.

Working with local musicians to provide jazz, bluegrass, and folk music, Chef Greg is excited to offer new entertainment to the area, including Open Mic nights, which will invite local talent to showcase their music.

In addition, the Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store will sell local honey, teas, baked goods, and cheeses. As a unique specialty, Chef Greg will offer his own labeled oil and vinegars, as well as flavored salts and sugars.

The Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store is located at 39 West Street, next to the downtown traffic circle, just west from the Pittsboro courthouse. Lunch menu features items that cost $6 and up. Dinner entrees will be offered at $10 and up.

Lewis looks forward to being a big part of the community. "My wife and kids and I always enjoyed listening to the band while having dinner or being entertained. I have really looked forward to getting it back open for the town."
