Short Breaks In The UK Becoming More Popular Than Holidays Abroad

It is always best to plan ahead, and although time has run out for more than a week away at this time, there is always the October half term to look forward to.  With the cost of family holidays abroad on the increase it is a fact that more families choose to plan holidays and short breaks right here in the UK rather than book holidays abroad.

There has been many surveys conducted to calculate exactly what is happening in the tourism market, and very recent figures released have compared figures from November 2010 to the same period in 2009 and it has shown that fewer UK holidaymakers actually took trips abroad.

As austerity policies and cut-backs have cut deep into everyone’s lifestyle, the great British public have begun to feel the pinch in their pockets, and it is looking like it will serve as a catalyst for a change in the thinking behind annual holidays and short breaks.

In the 1960’s camping became the standard for fun family holidays and Devon and Cornwall were the most popular destinations in the UK for this type of holiday, campsites in Cornwall were becoming more popular than boarding houses which had been the normal holiday option for the average family.
